What is Reiki?

“Reiki is an ancient healing art that has been around for thousands of years. In the mid 1800's a spiritual man, Mikao Usui re-discovered Reiki while meditating at one of the sacred mountains, near the city of Kyoto. Dr. Usui soon established healing centers in Tokyo where he created the three levels of training. Reiki is a Japanese word, Rei-meaning "higher intelligence" and Ki-meaning "universal life force energy".

* Reiki promotes relaxation, release of stress and tension and can be helpful in reducing or relieving pain and discomfort.
* Relaxation supports the body’s wellness and balance in advancing the body to heal itself at a faster rate.
* “Higher Intelligence”, Ki is the non-physical energy present in all living things including plants, animals and humans. Ki guides the functioning of all existing things around us, both animate and inanimate.
* When ki is high, we feel strong, confident and ready to enjoy life.
* When: ki” is low we feel weak, susceptible to sickness, stress, tension and discomfort.

Reiki treats weak or imbalanced energy in the body’s energy centers, called “chakras”. Each chakra corresponds directly with our feelings, behavior and attitude. For every imbalance, pain and discomfort, stress and tension usually there is a connection to the past, present and future. For example, being physically and emotionally injured in a car accident marks tissue damage and trauma to the emotions. The tissue damage may heal, but the trauma may still reside in some part of the body

How is Reiki administered?
* While being fully clothed, I gently lay my hands on your head, shoulders, abdomen, legs and feet bringing healing to your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

* Reiki can not be misused since it always creates a healing effect.
* Western medicine recognizes the role played by the mind in creating illness. Some Western doctors state that as much as 98% of illness is caused directly or indirectly by the mind. The mind exists in both our brain and throughout our physical body. The nervous system extends to every organ and tissue in the body. We have a mind/body connection as the mind and body are closely linked. Relaxation supports the body’s wellness and balance in advancing the body to heal itself.

The Seven Major Chakras

  1. Root
    - At the base of the spine. When in balance, we are enthusiastic about life; when not, we feel depressed.
  2. Sacral
    - Lower back (below the naval). The sacral chakra deals with the reproductive system, relationships and creativity. When in sync, we have a positive sense of self and our creative expression. When out of balance, we may be unhappy with relationships, lack confidence and experience emotional distress.
  3. Solar Plexus
    - Two inches above the naval affects how food is digested and governs our mood and self-esteem.
  4. Heart
    - In the center of the chest controls all others and it regulates our immune system and circulation.
  5. Throat
    - Governs the thyroid, neck, ears and upper respiratory system and controls our communication and creative expression.
  6. Third Eye
    - Center of the forehead governs the left eye, nose, ears and sinuses, cerebellum and central nervous system.  When in balance, we are composed and feel connected.
  7. Crown
    - Top of the head influences the right eye and the upper part of the brain.  When in balance, we sense our spirituality and have a sense of unity.
